burkina bangleUnique Batik sells Burkina Bangles that are crafted in Ghana from grass reeds and recycled plastic cord. Lightweight and cheery, they look great in a stack on your arm.

The image at the top is from the Unique Batik wholesale website. It shows a suggested retail price of $5 for one Burkina Bangle. The bottom image from a major online retailer shows the same bangle for $48.

Striking difference? Yes. Does it matter? Maybe not. What do you think?

chichi flower bagsOur stockroom shelves look a bit like a garden in springtime… there are bright colors and floral patterns all around. Highlighted above are some of our “Chichi” bags: all made of recycled huipiles (hand-woven and embroidered ladies’ blouses) from Chichicastenango, Guatemala. No two are the same!

We love this idea!  What a great wallet for musicians.  We found it on Pinterest and we are trying to get our artists to create a Fair Trade version.  It would be perfectly paired with our Fair Trade guitar straps that are handmade in Guatemala.  We also have bracelets that are handmade in Guatemala (shown above) using recycled guitar strings…aka our guitar string bracelet! We have plans to create a guitar string ring as well.  Any other suggestions for cool accessories for music lovers/creators?

We have decided to start highlighting each of our retail customers!  Well if you happen to be in California stop by and check out Baksheesh, a Fair Trade retailer that has two locations: St. Helena and Sonoma, CA.  You may be wondering, “What does Baksheesh mean?”  Visit their website to find out! http://www.baksheeshfairtrade.com/about.html

So these are by far some of our top-selling bags!  From left to right, Newspaper, Combo Quilt and Comalapa Patch.  The bottom three images are the smaller versions of these bags that are also available.  Each bag is handmade using recycled fabrics from Guatemala.  The fabric comes from the traditional dress, specifically the blouses and skirts that women wear in Guatemala.  Using recycled fabrics rather than new allows each bag to be 100% unique, eco-friendly and it also helps keep the cost down.  The large bags retail for $28 and the smaller ones $24.  Because each bag is 100% unique, we are working on finding a way to successfully sell them on our retail website: www.uniquebatikfairtrade.com.  Any suggestions?  We would love to hear from you!

We are in the process of uploading some One-of-a-Kinds to our retail website for your shopping pleasure!  Just in time for the holidays to get someone special something 100% unique.  All of our items are Fair Trade and the majority of the items we will be adding are handmade in Guatemala from recycled materials.
