Love the necklace you see above as much as we do? It reminds us of the jewelry worn by certain South African tribes. Well here is the tutorial we found online for how to make such a piece of art! It is made with really simple materials and involves a pair of pliers, super glue, rope and a lot of thread. Let us know how yours turns out and we will keep you posted on ours. Homemade Guatemalan Guac Recipe
This is a recipe I have been pretty much been keeping to myself with only a few exceptions…such as my mom. But what better place to share it then here! Below is one of the best homemade guacamole recipes I have ever made or tasted. A women named Everalda taught it to me when I was in Guatemala. Somehow she was able to relay the recipe to me through hand signals since she only spoke Spanish and I only spoke English. The other thing I got from Everalda through the language barrier was that I would never find a husband because I was so bad at making tortillas. Thanks to her, at least I can make a pretty darn good dish of guacamole!
Ingredients: Avocados, limes, sea salt, fresh cilantro, green onion, and oregano (I use Mexican oregano). The measurements are really to taste, so for all those perfectionists out there…I apologize. This is one of the only recipes I make without measurements, so I understand.
3 avocados = will make enough guac for 2 people
1-2 limes squeezed (roll limes on your counter top first before slicing to make them easier to squeeze)
Mash avocados at this point. The lime helps break them down. Try not to make the mixture too soupy. The amount of lime depends on how ripe your avocados are!
1 hand full of fresh cilantro chopped (add more if you really like cilantro)
2-3 green onions thinly sliced
A dusting of sea salt – you may need more or less depending on how salty your tortilla chips
Mexican oregano – enough to give the top of the entire mixture a fairly heavy dusting
Mix and serve! You can add tomato if you want to add a little extra something.
I find that storing leftover guacamole does best in an opaque, air-tight container to avoid it turning brown too quickly.
