Everyone who works here at Unique Batik has a soft spot for a good cup of chai tea.  I should correct myself before I go any further, “spiced chai” or “masala chai” not “chai tea”.  I never knew this before my research, but “chai” is the actual word for tea in India and Pakistan.  So when we say “chai tea” here we are actually saying “tea tea”, which might be fun to say but sounds really stupid.  Chai is a traditional drink in both India and Pakistan because these two countries actually used to be one.

When Unique Batik got to travel to Pakistan two summers ago in an initiative to create relationships between Pakistani artisans and Fair Trade companies in the U.S. the chai was amazing!  Here is a recipe that is simple and as close to an authentic cup of Pakistani chai.  Let us know what you think!

Well, we are new to the blogging thing, so you are all going to have to be a little patient, while we learn just exactly what you want to hear from us here at Unique Batik.  Who are we?  We are a Fair Trade company in North Carolina that designs and imports jewelry, bags, clothing and accessories from Guatemala, Ghana, Thailand and Pakistan.  We promise to bring you some fun, useful and interesting information through our new blog!  That being said, we are going to take some time to fill in our calendar with all kinds of great blog topics and we will get back to you shortly!  Any suggestions?  What would you like to hear about from us?
